Reports to the General Convention
The Reports to General Convention digital archive is an authentic record of the official triennial reports of the Interim Bodies of the General Convention for the years 1976 to 2024. It is created and maintained by The Archives of the Episcopal Church.
Requirements for the reports have changed over time, but they are typically received by the General Convention Office in the spring prior to the Convention and are disseminated church-wide as the “Blue Book” reports.
Although the General Convention has relied on a variety of interim bodies to carry out its work between triennial sessions, it was only in 1967 that canonical changes standardized membership, appointments, and terms of office in order to allow a more diverse membership. It was at this time, that the formal reporting procedure was added to the canons (I.1.2(e)). For more about the history of Interim Bodies view an Archives’ research report on the topic.
The Reports to General Convention database standardizes language and metadata about the reports to facilitate searching. The Reports include the rosters, mission mandates, summary of work, as well as proposed resolutions to General Convention. Beginning in 1970, the Reports were published as one of three volumes published around the General Convention. The other two volumes, the Journal of the General Convention, and the Constitution and Canons are also available in the Digital Archives.
