Whereas, Many persons from Southeast Asia, Africa and the Middle East, Eastern Europe and Latin America have become Refugees and are seeking lawful entry into the United States, as authorized by the President and Congress, pending sponsorship by U.S. citizens or organizations such as churches; therefore be it Resolved, That the Executive Council of The Episcopal Church urges congregations and dioceses of this church to participate actively in sponsoring Refugees for resettlement through the Office of the Presiding Bishop's Fund for World Relief; and be it further Resolved, That in the critical case of Indochinese Refugees awaiting sponsorship in the overcrowded camps in Southeast Asia, immediate consideration be given by the congregations and diocese of this Church for their sponsorship and effective resettlement of these Refugees in the United States. |
