Resolves of the Executive Council

Resolved, That the Executive Council considers the persecution of Palestinians in Kuwait and the plight of Kurdish refugees fleeing into Turkey and Iran, and the Shiites in Southern Iraq to be an enormous human tragedy deserving the prayers of the Church and the humanitarian assistance of the entire international community; and be it further

Resolved, That the Executive Council commends the actions of the Presiding Bishop's Fund for World Relief and the Episcopal Migration Ministries in supporting relief efforts to alleviate the sufferings of these fleeing refugees undertaken by our Anglican partner dioceses in the region and by the Middle East Council of Churches; and be it further

Resolved, That the Executive Council supports the continuing ministry of the Presiding Bishop to promote reconciliation following the end of the Gulf War; and be it further

Resolved, That the Executive Council affirms the leadership role of the Presiding Bishop's Fund for World Relief in identifying opportunities for this Church to participate actively in the reconstruction and rehabilitation work to be done in the region in the wake of the war and its consequent upheavals; and be it further

Resolved, That copies of this resolution be sent to the President, the Secretary of State, the Secretary General of the United Nations, the Anglican Observer to the United Nations, the Middle East Council of Churches, partner Anglican dioceses and selected voluntary agencies in the region chosen by the Secretary.
