Whereas, We are grateful to Alex Dickson for his informative and inspiring presentation on the formation of a new diocese, which could well serve as a model for the whole Church; and

Whereas, The excitement of the Spirit of this diocese was reflected in the exuberance of our hosts and hostesses; and

Whereas, Our Memphis experience has fulfilled one intention and goal of the Executive Council: to learn about the frustrations and joys of a diocese through story and human interaction; therefore be it

Resolved, That we thank Bishop Dickson and the people of the diocese for their warm fellowship; and be it further

Resolved, That we thank Charles Crump for his meticulous planning of the local arrangements and for the delightful hospitality; and be it further

Resolved, That I, Sandra Wilson, wish to thank the people of West Tennessee for calling Alex Dickson to be their bishop, thus providing me the opportunity to stand before you, as his replacement on Council, today.

Whereas, The Rt. Rev. Alex D. Dickson and the people of the Diocese of West Tennessee did host the Executive Council of the Episcopal for its April 1985 meeting; and

Whereas, The Bishop and people of West Tennessee did provide exemplary hospitality for the members of the Executive Council and staff; and

Whereas, The Executive Council and staff were introduced to the work and mission of the Diocese of West Tennessee through the inspirited words of Bishop Dickson and through the opportunity to converse with diocesan leaders in a relaxed and convivial atmosphere on Mud Island; therefore be it

Resolved, That this Executive Council extend its warm and heartfelt thanks to the Bishop of West Tennessee and to all who contributed to making the meeting of the Executive Council held in the City of Memphis from April 17-19 a time of spiritual refreshment and growth, as well as aiding the Council in the efficient conduct of its appointed business.

Whereas, The Hon. Charles Metcalf Crump, Chancellor of the Diocese of West Tennessee, did provide creative leadership as well as an enormous amount of energy and hard work in planning and providing for the April 1985 meeting of the Executive Council held in the City of Memphis; and

Whereas, Charles Crump has long served his Church well and faithfully at the parish, diocesan, and national levels; therefore be it

Resolved, That this Executive Council express its deep appreciation to the Hon. Charles Metcalf Crump for all his efforts in making its visit to his home town and diocese a very special occasion for the Council and staff, which will be long and warmly remembered by all.

Whereas, The Altar Guild of the Diocese of West Tennessee, under the direction of Mrs. Wanda Goodrich, did supply the necessary elements and appointments for the celebrations of the Holy Eucharist during the April 1985 meeting of the Executive Council; and

Whereas, Mrs. Goodrich was most cooperative and helpful in accommodating to the special circumstances of our worship together; therefore be it

Resolved, That this Executive Council express its thanks to Mrs. Goodrich for her thoughtfulness and cooperation in making it possible for us to break Bread together during our meeting at the Ramada Hotel.

Whereas, The Executive Council of The Episcopal Church has enjoyed the hospitality of the Ramada Hotel, Memphis, Tennessee, during its April 1985 meeting; and

Whereas, The Council and staff have been especially helped by the cooperation and assistance of Ms. Sandy Stokes, Convention Services Director; Mr. Don Griesheimer, Food and Beverage Director; Ms. Linda Wooley, Front Desk Manager; Ms. Brenda Greene, Front Desk Clerk; Mr. Carlie Williams and Mr. Steve Virgous, Banquet Managers; and Ms. Sheila Huley, Waitress, among others; therefore be it

Resolved, That this Executive Council express its appreciation to the staff of the Ramada Hotel for its demonstration of Tennessee hospitality at its finest.

Whereas, The Rt. Rev. A. Donald Davies, Bishop of Fort Worth, and Mr. Paul A. Frank, Jr., of Akron, Ohio, distinguished members of the Executive Council of The Episcopal Church, did display unusual ingenuity as well as considerable skills in carpentry during the April 1985 meeting of said Council; and

Whereas, In service beyond the call of duty Bishop Davies and Mr. Frank did relieve considerable anxiety among members of the staff; and

Whereas, By their willingness to undertake an unexpected task with grace and good humor Bishop Davies and Mr. Frank have set an excellent example for their fellow members of Council; therefore be it

Resolved, That this Executive Council salute these two among its membership even as it is hoped that the particular circumstances which called forth their talents on this occasion will not arise again.

Whereas, One half of the membership of the Executive Council will be retiring at its April 1985 meeting; and

Whereas, These nineteen men and women have served their Church faithfully and have given willingly and unstintingly of their time and considerable talents during their six-year term; therefore be it

Resolved, That the continuing members of this Executive Council express their heartfelt appreciation for the work of their colleagues, and bid them Godspeed as they continue their witness for Christ and his Church in other areas of fruitful service.
