Resolved, That Article V, Section 2 of the Constitution is hereby amended to read as follows:

In case one Diocese shall be divided into two or more Dioceses, the Bishop of the Diocese divided may elect the one to which he will be attached, and he shall thereupon become the Bishop thereof, and the Bishop Coadjutor, if there be one, may elect the one to which he shall be attached, and (if it not be the one elected by the Bishop) he shall be the Bishop thereof, at least thirty days before the effective date of such division, shall select the Diocese in which the Bishop will continue in jurisdiction. The Bishop Coadjutor, if there be one, subsequently and before the effective date of the division shall select the Diocese in which the Bishop Coadjutor shall continue in jurisdiction, and if it not be the Diocese selected by the Bishop, shall become the Bishop thereof.

Resolved, the House of Bishops concurring, That Article V, Section 2 of the Constitution is hereby amended to read as follows:

In case one Diocese shall be divided into two or more Dioceses, the Bishop of the Diocese divided may elect the one to which he will be attached, and he shall thereupon become the Bishop thereof, and the Bishop Coadjutor, if there be one, may elect the one to which he shall be attached, and (if it not be the one elected by the Bishop) he shall be the Bishop thereof, at least thirty days before the effective date of such division, shall select the Diocese in which the Bishop will continue in jurisdiction. The Bishop Coadjutor, if there be one, subsequently and before the effective date of the division shall select the Diocese in which the Bishop Coadjutor shall continue in jurisdiction, and if it not be the Diocese selected by the Bishop, shall become the Bishop thereof.

The Committee on Dispatch of Business presented its Report #16 and moved a Special Order of Business to debate and vote on Resolution A016 through Resolution A030.

The Committee on Constitution presented its Report #3 on Resolutions A015-A030 and moved that the resolutions be adopted without amendment.

The Bishop of Eau Claire registered his objection on theological grounds with regard to women in the episcopate.

The Secretary announced that the following message had been received from the House of Deputies: HD Message #88: A027 (Amend Article V, Sec. 2)

The House of Deputies adopted the resolution. Referred by the Presiding Bishop to the Committee on Constitution.

The Chair of the Committee on Dispatch of Business moved the following resolution:

Whereas, The House of Bishops on the Third Legislative Day, adopted Resolutions A-016 through A-030, inclusive, which resolutions had been assigned to the House of Deputies for initial action, without amendment, as communicated by House of Bishops Message #47; and

Whereas, The House of Deputies, on the Third Legislative Day, adopted the same numbered resolutions without amendment as communicated by House of Deputies Messages #77-91, inclusive; therefore be it

Resolved, the House of Deputies concurring, That the actions of the House of Bishops be deemed to be concurrences with the adoptions without amendment of Resolutions A-016 through A-030, inclusive, a final action of this General Convention; and be it further

Resolved, That in the event additional resolutions be adopted in identical form in both Houses, the adoption by the House to which the resolution was assigned for initial action shall be deemed to have been concurred with by the other House.
