Resolved, that this House of Bishops salute Fred and Helen Putnam, thank them for their rich and varied ministry, and pledge to remember them as the only couple courageous enough to arrive in Navajoland driving a Cherokee Chief.

Whereas, the Rt. Rev. Frederick W. Putnam has served as the first Bishop for the Navajo Area Mission, and has ably prepared them for a growing measure of self-support and indigenous leadership; and
Whereas, he served for fifteen years as Suffragan Bishop of Oklahoma, after a distinguished ministry as rector of St. James', Wichita, and St. Matthew's, Evanston; and
Whereas, he has for many years provided leadership in the liturgical movement, including service as President of Associated Parishes; and
Whereas, he was a founding member and active leader in the Conference of Diocesan Executives; and
Whereas, throughout his ministry he has made a clear and consistent witness in areas of social concern and justice; be it
Resolved, that this House of Bishops salute Fred and Helen Putnam, thank them for their rich and varied ministry, and pledge to remember them as the only couple courageous enough to arrive in Navajoland driving a Cherokee Chief.
The Committee moved the adoption of Resolution B-30, the resignation of Bishop Putnam, for reason of age, effective January 1, 1983, with addition.
Seconded by Bishop Cox.
