Good Friday Offering for Holy Land
Episcopal News Service. January 27, 1999 [99-2292G]
(ENS) In his annual Epiphany letter to all congregations, Presiding Bishop Frank T. Griswold asked that Episcopalians continue to pray for their sisters and brothers in the Holy Land and to support the Good Friday Offering.
For the past 76 years, the Episcopal church has taken up a Good Friday Offering to be sent to the Episcopal church in Jerusalem and the Middle East, symbolizing unity with and passionate concern for those who witness to Christ throughout that region.
An example of how the offering is helping would be Bishop Clive Handford of the Diocese of Cyprus and the Gulf who said, "The Good Friday Offering Funds played a significant part in enabling the project at Christ Church, Aden to come to completion."
The Christ Church compound includes a clinic for mothers and children, a worship center and a community center providing an office and a small hostel for Christian workers.
He continues, "This whole project has been the key item in diocesan outreach for the past three years and the Good Friday Offering was most important in enabling the initial vision to be realized."
The Good Friday Offering continues as a primary vehicle of the Episcopal Church's love and care for the church in Jerusalem and the Middle East. For more information call Episcopal Parish Services at (800) 903-5544.
