Diocese of Idaho Opposes Anti-gay Laws
Episcopal News Service. January 13, 1994 [94005D]
The Episcopal Diocese of Idaho's diocesan council recently passed a resolution opposing a proposed ballot measure that would prevent the state from extending civil rights protections based on sexual orientation. The diocesan resolution stated that the measure "promotes a climate of divisiveness, alienation and disunity among people" and that the church has "no outcasts." Kelly Walton, chairman of the Idaho Citizens Alliance which proposed the measure, argued that the "initiative is exposing a dangerous lifestyle and a dangerous behavior. This is an act of compassion, not an act of discrimination or hatred."
