Economic Justice Committee Reports on Initiatives

Episcopal News Service. December 3, 1992 [92246D]

The Episcopal Church's Economic Justice Implementation Committee has issued a detailed report on regional workshops held early last year with 120 leaders from 41 dioceses across the nation. The report highlights housing initiatives in the Dioceses of Chicago and Los Angeles, loan funds in the Dioceses of Delaware, Michigan, Indianapolis and Milwaukee, job creation and retention in the Diocese of Chicago and credit union development in the Dioceses of Los Angeles and New Jersey. The report also details the work of the EJIC's revolving loan fund, established with $7 million of the church's unrestricted endowment. EJIC was established in January of 1989 in response to a General Convention resolution calling on the church at all levels to take action for community development and economic justice, especially in the areas of land, housing, employment and financing. Copies of the full report, as well as the summary and diocesan highlights, are available from Rose Brunell at the EJIC office, 815 Second Avenue, New York 10017.
