Youth Ministry Institute Created in Central Florida

Episcopal News Service. November 29, 1990 [90312B]

In an effort to close the gap between needs and available services for Episcopal youth ministries, the Diocese of Central Florida will create an Episcopal Youth Ministry Institute to serve the diocese's and the church's nationwide agencies. Anne McGlade and Michael Cain, the moving forces behind the institute, emphasized that "to our knowledge no institution of the church exists solely to train, equip, and support youth ministry." They pointed out that there is no central referral agency in the church for either youth ministry training or deployment, and that the need for youth ministry standards and certification has been insufficiently addressed. The Episcopal Youth Ministry Institute's proposed 1991 budget is $104,166, of which $17,231 is being sought from the diocesan board in the form of a loan for seed money. The institute expects to generate most of its income from placement and training fees.
