Episcopal News Service. December 15, 1988 [88275A]
NEW YORK (DPS, Dec. 15) -- The board of the National Episcopal Coalition on Alcohol and Drugs (NECAD), meeting in Kirkwood, Missouri, in late October, announced their plans for 1989, including future staffing and implementation strategies, dates for their 1989 Annual Gathering (June 1-3, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania), and for 1989 Alcohol-Drug Awareness Sunday (tentatively set for November 19). The board also discussed the development of a diocesan resource program.
NECAD is an independent, nationwide network of Episcopal laity and clergy, dioceses and parishes, schools, agencies, and other institutions, with a common commitment to address the use and misuse of alcohol and other drugs in relationship to Church ministry. The NECAD network, in addition to holding its Annual Gathering and sponsoring Alcohol-Drug Awareness Sunday, builds awareness of the pastoral and spiritual dimensions of alcohol and drug use through the publication of a quarterly newsletter, sharing of resource materials with diocesan commissions on alcohol and drugs, and management of a publications program.
