Mission And Ministry: Women's Focus Expands
Episcopal News Service. March 21, 1985 [85061]
NEW YORK (DPS, March 21) -- "Women in Mission and Ministry" is the title announced by Presiding Bishop John M. Allin for the Episcopal Church Center's newly evolving division dedicated to facilitating women's work.
Allin made the announcement at the March 4-8 "In-House Week" meeting of the administrative group of the Episcopal Church Center here. The name was chosen to reflect the expanding focus of women's ministries and its new role as partner within the Church. The Presiding Bishop encouraged all units at the Church Center to work with and contribute to this new area of concern and growth.
To further this work, a gathering was held here later in March to design the meeting of the Council for Women's Ministries scheduled for May 30-June 2 at the Sheraton Anaheim Hotel in Anaheim, Calif. Planners included leadership representatives of the Episcopal Churchwomen, Daughters of the King, the National Association of Diocesan Altar Guilds, the Task Force on Women, the Office of Black Ministries, and the staff of the Women in Mission and Ministries unit. The Council provides an organizational base and linkage for more than 20 women's organizations of the Church.
According to its designers, the meeting will have a four-fold purpose: to continue communication and collaboration with all the women's organizations; to strengthen and support the Women in Mission and Ministry Unit; to prepare for the Triennial Meeting and General Convention; and to develop the next steps for the future. Discussion and activities will center around "continuing the Council's spiritual journey with God by being; One with God, One with ourselves, and One with one another." The spiritual focus is meant to enhance collaboration of all women's groups at Triennial and the women's contribution at General Convention. Meditations offered by members will be in preparation and anticipation of the Triennial theme of "One Body, One Spirit."
Further information on the upcoming Council for Women's Ministries meeting will be available in its Journal for Women's Ministries.
