Episcopal News Service. April 5, 1979 [79107]
New York -- Three major faith groups have announced a working relationship with each other as they consult jointly with CBS News on many programs in the new TV series, "For Our Times," to air on Sunday mornings, beginning April 29.
The series will explore the social concerns of the three groups -- Roman Catholic, Jewish, and Protestant/Anglican/Orthodox -- and others. It will seek to engage an audience interested in the possibilities for a new quality of life, according to Pamela Ilott, Vice President for Religious and Cultural Affairs Broadcasts of CBS News and Executive Producer of the new series. Host and anchor for the program is Douglas Edwards, CBS News correspondent.
"For Our Times" is the successor to CBS's Sunday morning programs "Lamp Unto My Feet," which ran for 30 years, and "Look Up And Live," which was aired for 25 years.
The coordinating consultancy group includes, the National Council of Churches, the New York Board of Rabbis (and its national constituency), and the U. S. Catholic Conference and others.
The first program on April 29 entitled "The Whole Child," looks at some children in Cincinnati. It focuses on the handicapped, the gifted, the sick, the vigorous, the rich, the poor, the funny, the ethnic, the clever.
Other programs in the series which have been scheduled include a look at the Sandinistas and the Somoza regime of Nicaragua; news of preparations for the World Council of Churches' Conference on Faith, Science and the Future; a presentation on the religious dimensions of relationships in the Middle East; and a documentary on Haitian refugees.
"For Our Times" is scheduled to air on the CBS-TV network on Sundays from 10:30 to 11:00 a. m. Eastern Time. Check local listings or call the nearest CBS-TV affiliate for the exact time in your area.
