Episcopal Asiamerica Strategies Task Force Named

NEW YORK, N.Y. -- The Rt. Rev. John E. Hines, Presiding Bishop of the Epis- copal Church, has announced the appointment of an Episcopal Asiamerica Strategies Task Force, whose responsibility is to propose a structure for the church's ministry with Asian American Episcopalians. The task force is expected to complete its work within a year and report its recommendations to the 1975 conference of Asian American Episcopalians.
This ministry was established by the General Convention of the Episcopal Church at its meeting last fall in Louisville, Ky. The Episcopal Asiamerica Ministry, which includes Americans of Chinese, Japanese, Filipino and Korean backgrounds, is a segment of the church's Mission Service and Strategy, which coordinates the church's program and grant concerns for racial and ethnic minorities.
Those appointed to the task force are:
* The Rev. Matthew Y. Ahn, vicar, St. Mary's Church, Chicago;
* The Rev. Martin S. Bayang, Ph.D., interim assisting priest in the Dioceses of Rio Grande and Arizona;
* The Rev. Lincoln P. Eng, rector, St. Bartholomew's Church, Beaverton, Ore.;
* Mrs. Betty Jean Lee, administrator, True Sunshine Pre-school Center, San Francisco, Calif.;
* Mrs. Carole Jan Lee, coordinator, School Volunteers, San Francisco Education Auxiliary, San Francisco,. Calif.;
* The Rev. George Lee, training consultant, Regional Criminal Justice Training Center, University of Hawaii, Honolulu, Hawaii;
* The Rev. Canon Timoteo P. Quintero, vicar, St. Paul's Mission, Honolulu, Hawaii;
* The Rev. Canon Timothy M. Nakayama, vicar, St. Peter's Church, Seattle, Wash.
* Mr. Samuel Shoji, M.S.W., community service specialist, Veterans Administration Regional Office, Seattle, Wash.;
* The Rev. Albany To, Bishop's vicar for Chinese affairs, Diocese of New York, New York, N.Y.;
* The Rev. Victor T. Wei, vicar, Church of Our Saviour, Oakland, Calif.;
* The Rev. Canon John H. M. Yamazaki, rector, St. Mary's Church, Los Angeles, Calif.
In addition, Bishop Hines appointed the following as co-opted members because of their particular roles and functions: Bishop C. Kilmer Myers of California, president of Province VIII; Bishop E. Lani Hanchett of Hawaii, member of Executive Council, elected by Province VIII; the Rev. Canon James Pun, director of Chinese Ministries, Diocese of California, San Francisco, Calif.; the Rev. Shunji Nishi, professor of philosophical theology, Church Divinity School of the Pacific, Berkeley, Calif.; and the Rev. William C. Heffner, executive secretary for Asia and the Pacific, Executive Council staff, New York City.
The Rev. Winston W. Ching is the Executive Council's executive officer of the Episcopal Asiamerica Ministry, New York City. The executive assistant is Mrs. Nancie Oyama.
