Bishop Swift Conducting Study in Honduras

Diocesan Press Service. February 9, 1973 [73034]

BOCA RATON, Fla. -- With the permission of the Bishop of Southeast Florida, the vestry of St. Gregory's, Boca Raton, has granted its rector, the Rt. Rev. A. Ervine Swift, a leave of absence so that he may accept the invitation of the Presiding Bishop, the Rt. Rev. John E. Hines, to do an on-the-spot study of the Church in the Republic of Honduras, Central America. This missionary diocese was formerly attached to Guatemala and before that was a part of the jurisdiction of Central America, created at the time of the transfer of these several republics to the American Church by the Church in the Province of the West Indies. It is hoped that from the study will come recommendations for future policy.

Bishop and Mrs. Swift are living in La Ceiba, Honduras (Box 28) and he is priest-in-charge of two congregations on the north shore. However, he has not resigned as rector of St. Gregory's, responsibility for which has been turned over to the Rev. Lloyd Johnson, associate rector, nor has he resigned as Assistant Bishop of the Diocese of Southeast Florida, but returns monthly to Florida for groupings of week-day confirmations.
