OLYMPIA: Diocese announces nominees for eighth bishop

The Bishop Search Committee of the Episcopal Diocese of Olympia announced February 5 a slate of five nominees for the eighth Bishop of Olympia.
The following nominees will stand for election on May 12, 2007 at St. Mark's Cathedral, Seattle:
- The Rev. Richard A. Burnett, rector, Trinity Episcopal Church, Columbus, Ohio
- The Rev. Jeffrey D. Lee, rector, St. Thomas Episcopal Church, Medina, Washington
- The Rev. Dr. Gregory Rickel, rector, St. James' Episcopal Church, Austin, Texas
- The Rt. Rev. Bavi Edna (Nedi) Rivera, Bishop Suffragan of Olympia, Seattle, Washington
- The Rev. Angela F. Shepherd, rector, St. Philip's Episcopal Church, Annapolis, Maryland

Additional candidates may emerge through the Petition Nominee Process, overseen by the Joint Board of the Standing Committee and the Diocesan Council. This process is open January 29-February 26. (See information here.)
A walkabout of the diocese by all nominees will be held April 30-May 5. Details will be posted on the Bishop Search website and distributed to each congregation.
The electing convention will be held May 12 at St. Mark's Cathedral in Seattle. The new Bishop of Olympia will be consecrated on September 15 at Meydenbauer Center, Bellevue. The seventh Bishop of Olympia, the Rt. Rev. Vincent W. Warner, will retire at that time after 18 years as diocesan.
The Diocese of Olympia comprises about 32,000 Episcopalians worshipping in 96 congregations in the state of Washington west of the Cascades.
